Listening to Ocean Waves and Red Flags.

“Remember what it says: “Today when you hear his voice…”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭3‬:‭15‬a ‭NLT

“I listen carefully to what God the Lord is saying, for he speaks peace to his faithful people. But let them not return to their foolish ways.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭85‬:‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Vacation is here! Before everyone got up, I decided to take a jog down the beach. Well, in all honesty, it was more of a slow trot with some walking mixed in. It was harder than I thought it would be, but I got it done!

Afterward, I sat out on the balcony and spent some time reading and journaling while watching and listening to the waves roll onto the shore. It was so peaceful. Even though the cool ocean breeze was blowing pretty hard, I could still hear the sound of the waves crashing. So relaxing.

The sun was shining bright, but we probably won’t be getting into the ocean today because of the strong tides. It’s a double red flag 🚩🚩 day.

I’ll come back to that in a moment.

As I sat there enjoying the peaceful sounds of the ocean, I felt the Spirit say, “Jacob, if you would listen to Me more, you would have more peace.”

As I thought about that statement, I realized that much of the chaos and stress in my life comes from not listening to God. I thought about all the times I lacked peace, and often it was because I ignored God’s warnings—you know, those red flags 🚩🚩.

Every morning, the beach authorities determine whether it is safe to enter the ocean. When there are double red flags flying, it means stay out! The danger is real, even if you can’t see it from the shore.

God does the same thing in my life through the Holy Spirit. Time and time again, He warns me about things that will only bring chaos, stress, and heartache. He sees dangers ahead that I cannot see.

As I sat on the balcony listening to the waves, I began to wonder: What if I listened to God’s voice the same way I was listening to the ocean? What if I tuned my heart to Him with that same attentiveness?

How much more peaceful would my life be?

When God directs my life and shows me warning signs, I need to listen. He knows what’s ahead of me. He sees what I cannot see. Just as those red flags on the beach are there for my protection, God’s warnings are given for my good.

I need to listen to God’s voice more.

I need more peace in my life.

How about you? Do you listen to the red flags?

Prayer

Lord, help me listen to Your voice as You guide my life. Give me the wisdom to recognize Your warnings and the courage to obey them. As I follow Your direction, fill my heart with the peace that only You can give. Amen.

The Struggle is Real… So is the Solution!

IMG_7035

Here lately I have seen the phrase “the struggle is real” a lot on social media and the truth is, struggles are real! Everyone struggles with different things in their lives. People will go through difficult times due to their circumstances in life. Sometimes, our struggles overwhelm us and we lose hope. When there is no hope, people become desperate or they just want to give up on hope and life. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. There is hope! I know the struggle is realbut Read More…

More than Dried Ink…

bible

This morning I was humbled and amazed as I read the dried ink on the pages of God’s Word. It is hard to believe how single letters coming together to form words can change a person’s life. Yet, while the ink on the pages is dry, my heart is full Read More…

3 Truths of Real Love

real love

“Take this mug for a ride…Boom! Burn! Bip! Yeah! Pow! Hey, ha ha. Down with the dc Talk…” used to bump from the JBL Powerbass 10” subs located in the trunk of my 1989 Chevy Cavalier. Boy, back in the da’ day it was fly to be bumpin’ the bass, and no, I don’t mean those pesky black things flying in the air. The year was 1994 and it was a time of low-riders and big speakers and lots of bass. It was also the year I became a believer in Christ and I was trying to change some of the things in my life. One of those things was my choice of music. I listen to all kinds of music. I like classic/hard rock, country, rap and hip hop. It was then that I started listening to different genres of Christian music. One of the groups I was introduced to was DC Talk, you know Toby Mac’s old band. Back then, DC Talk was more hip hop/rap than anything else and one of my favorite songs was “Luv is a Verb”. Great song, but the problem was, I had no real idea what that song was even about and how it applied to my life back in the day.
Now, almost 21 years later, Read More…

The Great Advocate

blog post 3

1 John 2:1-6
The Great Advocate

John makes his intentions known immediately and they are quite simple. He is imploring us live holy lives and not to sin. However, because John knows our condition as sinners, he wanting to introduce us to the Great Advocate. The Great Advocate is the only one who can help and defend us before the mighty and just Judge, our Father in Heaven. This Great Advocate is Jesus Christ! In Christ we have no condemnation in our lives because we belong to Him: Romans 8:1. But, we must be in Him and that means we trust Jesus as our Savior. And when He becomes our Savior, we are found innocent, not because we are innocent, but because The Great Advocate Read More…

No News is Good News…Right?

Nonews is Good News

Have you ever been in a situation where you have been waiting on some news and haven’t heard anything yet when someone will predictably say: “No news is good news.”? Yes, I think we all have been there at one time or another. I know that I have said it on more than one occasion. But the reality of this phrase is that it gives us a false sense of security and hope. Just because you haven’t heard anything does not mean that the outcome will result in good news, it might turn out to be bad news after all. This morning I was thinking about the Gospel and how it changes people’s lives. Pondering this amazing truth led me to ask the question: “What if we stopped Read More…

Are You Picky?

PickyI have a confession to make… growing up I was picky! Yes, I was picky when it came to the food on my plate at dinner time.  I wouldn’t eat it if I didn’t like the way it looked.  Yes, I was picky! My mom would say, “Jacob, stop being so picky, you’re missing out on some good foods!” However, I wouldn’t listen. Remember, I was picky. However, now that I am an adult; I learned to not being as picky about my food. I do try new things and my mom would be proud of me and of course, mom was right; I missed out on a lot of good foods.

However, I’m still picky and I bet you are too!  Read More…

See It? Hear It? It’s His Glory!

“The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship.” Psalms 19:1 (NLT)

“Seek My face, and you will find fulfillment of your deepest longing. My world is filled with beautiful things; the are meant to be pointers to Me, reminders of My abiding Presence. The earth still declares My Glory to those who have eyes that see and ears that hear.” Sarah Young ~ “Jesus Calling”
