The Great Advocate
John makes his intentions known immediately and they are quite simple. He is imploring us live holy lives and not to sin. However, because John knows our condition as sinners, he wanting to introduce us to the Great Advocate. The Great Advocate is the only one who can help and defend us before the mighty and just Judge, our Father in Heaven. This Great Advocate is Jesus Christ! Have you ever been in a situation where you have been waiting on some news and haven’t heard anything yet when someone will predictably say: “No news is good news.”? Yes, I think we all have been there at one time or another. I know that I have said it on more than one occasion. But the reality of this phrase is that it gives us a false sense of security and hope. Are You Picky?
I have a confession to make… growing up I was picky! Yes, I was picky when it came to the food on my plate at dinner time. I wouldn’t eat it if I didn’t like the way it looked. Yes, I was picky! My mom would say, “Jacob, stop being so picky, you’re missing out on some good foods!” However, I wouldn’t listen. Remember, I was picky. However, now that I am an adult; I learned to not being as picky about my food. I do try new things and my mom would be proud of me and of course, mom was right; I missed out on a lot of good foods.
